Epstein Cole: New Premises

Epstein Cole LLP is Canada's largest family law firm, specializing in serving individuals who are planning to marry, or are in the midst of separation or divorce.

GIOTAN was originally invited by DTZ Barnicke to submit a design proposal for Epstein Cole's new premises. Although we were up against some pretty steep competition, we're happy to report that we won the contract.

"We were extremely pleased with GIOTAN's ability to take an unconventional floor plate with our wall of windows and balcony, and maximize the useable number of offices.

"Their guidance was also helpful in coordinating our workstation layout with an efficient file storage capacity. The design of the public amenities like the reception lobby and kitchen has proven to have been both practical and aesthetically pleasing."

Working closely with Epstein Cole's internal design committee of five partners, we were then asked to develop a concept that clearly illustrated the firm's position, reflected the diversity of its clients and reconciled each partner's individual opinion of how the office should look.

GIOTAN met these challenges by selecting high-end limestone and mahogany panels that were matched with custom residential furniture in the client reception area. This main theme, complemented with custom colours to match filing cabinets and millwork, was extended throughout the entire space.

At the same time, we were able to create an efficient office layout that addressed a number of shortcomings in the firm's previous office by increasing the size and shifting the location of the staff lounge, and reducing the distances between lawyers and their assistants. We're told that this has led to an increase in staff productivity and overall satisfaction.
